It’s been more than 40 years since Jaws first terrorised the waters of Amity Island. Yet still few of us can venture out of the shallow end without wondering what’s lurking beneath the surface. In the spirit of the sea – as stylish as it is terrifying – US footwear brand Sperry has teamed up with Universal to turn out a new limited edition run of Jaws-themed shoes. The seafaring label has produced two styles inspired by the Steven Spielberg-directed film. Our pick is the slip-on sneaker that pays homage to the film’s iconic movie poster. In addition to the vulcanised construction and breathable canvas uppers the shoe features small details such as a ‘Beach Closed’ sign on the insoles. It’s a fitting tribute given that Sperry is to Jaws what Giorgio Armani is to American Gigolo. Showing great taste only true adventurers could, Oceanographer Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss), shark hunter Quint (Robert Shaw) and police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) all wore the brand in the film. In the words of the brand itself, this latest collection will keep you looking sharp. Like, shark teeth sharp. We’re going to need a bigger shoe rack. The Sperry x Jaws trainers will be available to buy from mid-June on sperry.com, priced at £90 for the slip-on sneaker and £100 for the boat shoe.
